Rug Care Guide
How to Clean & Maintain Your Handmade Tufted Rug
At Rug My Idea, every rug is carefully handmade using high-quality yarn and professional tufting techniques. Proper care will help preserve its softness, shape, and vibrant colors for years to come.
Because our rugs are handmade, they require gentle maintenance.
Regular Maintenance
To keep your rug looking fresh:
Vacuum 1–2 times per week
Use low suction
Avoid rotating brush heads
Do not aggressively pull loose fibers (trim gently with scissors instead)
Light shedding during the first weeks is normal for handmade tufted rugs.
Spot Cleaning (For Small Stains)
If something spills:
Act quickly
Gently blot with a clean, dry cloth
Use mild soap and lukewarm water if needed
Dab softly — never scrub
Allow to air dry completely
⚠ Do not rub aggressively, as this may damage the fibers.
🚫 Do NOT:
Machine wash
Tumble dry
Soak the rug in water
Use bleach or harsh chemicals
Pressure wash
Use high heat drying
Improper cleaning methods may damage the backing and fibers.
Deep Cleaning
For deeper stains or heavy dirt:
We recommend professional rug cleaning services
Inform the cleaner that the rug is handmade and tufted
Placement & Longevity Tips
To extend your rug’s lifespan:
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight
Keep away from excessive moisture
Rotate occasionally for even wear
Use a non-slip rug pad if placed on smooth floors
Important Notice
Damage caused by improper cleaning, misuse, or normal wear and tear is not covered under our return policy.
